FAQ
What is a GERMREPEL® Drinking Bottle?

A new drinking bottle product that uses breakthrough GERMREPEL® technology to deliver a super hygienic bottle that repels up to 99% of harmful bacteria from the inner and outer surfaces of the bottle. It is an industry first for GERMREPEL® to be applied to new line of drinking bottles and revolutionises clean drinking on-the-go.

What is biofilm and why is it harmful?

Bacteria that cause health diseases can find their way easily into drinking bottles. These bacteria can form a biofilm, a community of bacteria that connect together by secreting slimy substances. Biofilm can form on the inside of a drinking bottle over time causing health risks.

Why choose a GERMREPEL® bottle?

A clean bottle is essential for optimal health and wellness. Many other drinking bottles on the market contain germ-killing chemicals and biocides. Instead of killing germs, the GERMREPEL® bottle repels the adhesion of harmful bacteria, preventing their growth. It offers antimicrobial protection, prevents biofilm formation, and will not give rise to resistant superbugs.

Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Ltd (NAMI) has pioneered a breakthrough technology that elevates the standard of what’s truly safe for bottle hygiene. With the new GERMREPEL® bottle, you will have access to a clean and safe drinking bottle, around the clock.

How does it work?

Applied during manufacturing, GERMREPEL® alters the properties of the entire bottle, enables the surfaces to repel the bacteria attaching to the bottle, and prevents the formation of biofilm.

What is the difference between the GERMREPEL® drinking bottle and commercial antibacterial drinking products?

Conventional antibacterial products enable biofilm formation and include a type of chemical called a biocide, which is a toxic chemical when it interacts with bacteria. Other antibacterial drinking bottles on the market may claim to kill bacteria but harmful biocides used in these products may induce germ evolution into resistant superbugs.

The GERMREPEL® drinking bottle repels up to 99% of the bacteria without harmful biocides. It reduces the attachment of bacteria without killing them or employing leachable biocides.

The GERMREPEL® drinking bottle is significantly more hygienic than current antibacterial bottles available on the market today.

Is it effective?

Absolutely. The GERMREPEL® bottle has proven effective in repelling up to 99% of harmful bacteria to deliver a safe and clean drinking bottle, every time. The breakthrough technology has been specifically formulated to be effective at repelling bacteria on contact with the added benefit of providing persistent protection over an extended period of time. The GERMREPEL® bottle is non-toxic, food safe, and free of biocides. Built-in antimicrobial protection means no external germ-killing devices or waiting time in the cleaning cycle is required.

How was its efficacy tested?

Surfaces enhanced with a germ-repellent feature were tested against unmodified counterparts to observe the improvement in preventing bacterial attachment. Fixed concentrations of bacterial solution were grown and placed on top of the testing samples. These samples were then placed in simulated environments with temperature and humidity levels highly conducive to biofilm formation. After a designated time period, unattached bacteria were washed away and the remaining attached bacteria were counted.

Germ-Repellent Surface

The GERMREPEL® technology has received numerous awards and international recognition for its application on other products including food packaging and medical equipment. It's been independently

tested and certified to Intertek and ISO standards.

How are Germ-Repellent products made?

The GERMREPEL® drinking bottle is made much like our other drinking bottles. The only difference is the inclusion of specifically tailored germ-repellent agents in the initial mixing process. These germ-repellent agents alter the surface properties of the drinking bottle such that they form a bacteria-repellent barrier to bacterial attachment.

Is it safe?

GERMREPEL® is certified to comply with FDA, EU, and LFGB food grade safety standards. It has been independently proven to be biocide-free, non-toxic and leach-free.
